Still worried?
Yesterday I was thinking about the mad but practical reccomendations that Paul mad in his letter to the Philippians [and us]:
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Phil 4:4-7
As it happened in house group that evening the same topic arose as we studied [God's Word using] Rick Warren's book The Purpose Driven Life. We had got to chapter 11 and as I desperately tried to read it all before leaving the house I read something that made me laugh. It was so fantastically simple and workable:
"While you cannot spend all day studying the Bible, you can think about it throughout the day, recalling verses you have read or memorized and mulling them over in your mind.
Meditation is often misunderstood as some difficult, mysterious ritual practiced by isolated monks and mystics. But meditation is simply focused thinking - a skill anyone can learn and use anywhere.
When you think about a problem over and over in your mind, that's called worry. When you think about God's Word over and over in your mind, that's meditation. If you know how to worry [and I'm sure you do], you already know how to meditated! You just need to switch your attention from your problems to Bible verses. The more you meditate on God's Word, the less you will have to worry about."
Brilliant!
Have a great day.
